Firstly, the pants themselves have two layers... The first is a smooth material and slides easily against skin, so no rashes or burns from that. The outer material is a thicker and more tough material. If your walking through a thornbush, you won't have to worry about it tearing to even going through and poking you. It has eight pockets and six have velcro to close them. The top back pockets have zippers that can be covered with the pants. The top two in the front have strings that you can pull to adjust the length of the pants. There are also straps around the waist that adjust the width of the pants. Even better is that there are straps on the outer thigh and calf that adjust how much the width the pant legs have. That way, it can hug your legs according to how big your legs are, so the pant legs aren't getting caught on objects. There are knee pads that came with it as well. They are very sturdy and the stitching is tight. The plastic piece isn't going to fall off any time soon. The plastic part goes over the pants and the softer, black material goes in the hole in the knee. It's a bit hard to get it in the hole completely, but if you force it in then push down, it should fit nice and snug. The actual plastic piece is a bit stuff when walking, but I'll gladly take that then bashing my knee on a rock or sharp corner when hiking. This is an overall sturdy product and can see myself wearing this at least once a week. If anyone is looking for good tactical pants, I'm definitely recommending this one.
